ParaNorman - Trailer

And to demonstrate the extent of Tim Burton's influence - the puppet animation, the gothic look & feel, the gloomy content, the weirdo central character ("You can't be a hero by being normal"): Chris Butler & Sam Fell's Scooby Doo-influenced ParaNorman:

Kinda like an animated Sixth Sense. Not quite for kids then. It seems fun, but doesn't quite have the intimacy or artistic flair of vintage Burton, but nice puppet work, below.

  1. gahhh!!!! nooooo!!!!! whattt are you talking about? pretty much everything you said about this movie is wrong (both personal opinion and fact) this is not influenced by scooby doo that and it is hardly influenced by Tim Burton considering that it is directed and produced by the SAME PERSON- Henry Selick who often worked with Tim Burton on movies such as Games and the Giant peach and nightmare before christmas, etc, etc, it's a common mistake that people make. I am not trying to insult what you are saying in any way. I am just passionate about these things, however I encourage that you get your facts straight before posting on a blog such as this.

    1. Ah, but I will send you a photo from my Empire Magazine where the makers themselves are quoted as saying "We thought - what if Scooby Doo was real?!".

I should have named my source. I don't see the Scooby Doo influence, personally, from the trailer at least, but there it is - from the horse's mouth!

      Thanks for your passionate response!

As for Tim Burton, personally the look & feel of Nightmare before Christmas is more Burton than Selick, but when I said ParaNorman was influenced by Burton I guess I meant it in conjunction with my previous post about Frankenweenie... That back when Burton first made FRankenweenie, Disney fired him, but these days his particular brand of gothic is acceptable in a film aimed at kids. I couldn't help feeling that he trailblazed the way for films like ParaNorman. That is my opinion, though. I didn't explain myself well in the post. Bit lazy on the words, more interested in the pictures... :)
